About File Hash and Checksum

Drop in a file and get its checksums, then paste the value from the download page to see immediately whether they match.

The file is read 4 MB at a time and fed to incremental hashers, so memory stays flat and the page keeps responding - a multi-gigabyte ISO works, and the progress bar keeps moving. Nothing is uploaded, which is why it also suits confidential files and files far larger than any upload limit.

Our SHA implementations are checked against Node's OpenSSL-backed crypto on thousands of inputs in the test suite, so the digests are the same ones sha256sum would print.

How to use it

  1. 1Choose a file or drop it on the box.
  2. 2Tick the algorithms you need.
  3. 3Press 'Work out the checksums' and watch the progress.
  4. 4Paste the published checksum to see whether it matches.
