JOB PURPOSE

Ensures optimal performance, availability, and security of SQL Server databases by managing database architecture, backup strategies, and performance tuning activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues using tools like SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and DMVs.

• Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss.

• Installing, configuring and maintaining centralized SQL Clusters (VERSIONS 2016/2019/2022)

• Maintaining backups for all SQL dBs in PROD, STAGING AND DEVELOPMENT environments with scheduled jobs

• Protecting the database against threats or unauthorized access.

• Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss.

• Managing and maintaining the performance, security, and availability of Microsoft SQL Server databases.

• Apply Patches and CUs on the DEV, Stage and Prod Environments coordinating with departments for the downtime and checkups

• Handle indexing, archiving, and data lifecycle tasks for performance and storage optimization

• Design and implement high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions (AlwaysOn, Log Shipping, Replication, Clustering).

• Troubleshooting & Incident Resolution: Lead resolution of database bottlenecks, corruption, connectivity, and high-priority escalations

• Reporting: Handle SSRS and SSIS for various projects

• Maintenance & Lifecycle Management: Handle indexing, archiving, and data lifecycle tasks for performance and storage optimization.

• Backup & Recovery: Develop and execute backup strategies, point-in-time recovery, disaster recovery (DR), and failover readiness.

• Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Optimize queries, indexes, configurations, and resource utilization for improved efficiency.

• Database Security & Compliance: Implement and monitor access controls, roles, permissions, encryption, and audit compliance.

• Database Design & Implementation: Lead database design, modelling, and architecture aligned to business and application needs.

• Ensuring regular backups are performed and conducting trial recoveries to verify data integrity. This is one of the most critical tasks for disaster recovery.

• Performance Tuning: Monitoring database performance, optimizing queries, and tuning indexes to enhance efficiency.

• Implementing access controls, auditing database activities, and ensuring compliance with security standards to protect sensitive data.

• Maintaining detailed records of database configurations, changes, and future plans to ensure transparency and ease of troubleshooting.

• Setting up alerts for job failures, capacity shortages, and other critical events to proactively address issues.

• Coordinating with security team and applying recommended security patches whenever necessary

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Educational Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field

Experience

10+ years

• Strong SQL Server administration skills

• Database performance tuning

• Backup and disaster recovery planning

• High availability solutions (AlwaysOn, clustering)

• Security and compliance

• Experience with SSIS, SSRS

Certifications

SQL DB ,MCSA

Arabic and English Language (spoken and written) – Essential
